Legacy Sessions

Thirteen years ago,

I started serving Lakeland families as a birth photographer: capturing honest moments of connection as an entirely new family unit was born. I did this over and over again, and eventually expanded into other types of photography sessions. But my love for those moments of honest connections in REAL life has never dwindled.

I’ve had precious opportunities to capture families really in their element, and it’s my favorite thing.

Here’s how it works: we start with a conversation, some questions to get to really understand what your family is like, and we create a session plan from there.

I am looking for 2 families to work with (before the end of 2023 specifically) to capture a family tradition that’s unique to you, something you really love that you know you AND your kids will revisit in stories and memories for the rest of your lives. THAT is what legacy sessions are all about. They’re about capturing the story of your family. Whether we got your birth story in these last 12 years or not, we can capture who your family really is. So you can have photos of the days you’ll remember deeply in your heart for years to come.

Here are some examples of legacy sessions:
Maybe you always make your great grandmother’s ravioli recipe, stretching dough long through multiple sets of hands huddled around a kitchen island. Or maybe you all get hot chocolate on the first cold snap day.

If your family/tradition is chosen for one of those two model call session spots, the session fee will be 50% off.

A little more about legacy sessions:
I love capturing families. I love capturing closeness, and how YOU connect. I have loved capturing you when you all put on clothes you don’t normally wear, and let’s be real, sometimes clothes you literally only wear once for those photos, and going to a park you may or may not have ever been to, and posing you in ways you never really stand, and then working to get you all to look like you don’t feel out of your element.

BUT, there’s another way. These sessions are for clients who really value the authentic moments. Who really want to create an album of memories that capture your family as it was. (How many of us wish we had photos of our favorite memories from our childhoods? How many of us wish we could see our mothers as they really looked, but she wasn’t ever in the photos because she was always waiting to look better, smaller, different, her hair wasn’t right, “oh, maybe another time.”?) Legacy sessions are for those of us who understand that legacy is about the honest beauty of our connection with one another. These sessions are truly a gift for your children and for you.

If your first question when getting your photo made is, “can you edit out my double chin?”  THIS SESSION IS NOT FOR YOU. I’m going into birth photographer mode - which is to say, I’m going full documentarian. Have you looked at birth photos before? Not the ones where babies are crowning. The ones where mothers and fathers have forgotten the camera and they’re fully in the emotions of meeting their child for the first time. The ones where it’s settling into their bones that nothing about the world will ever be the same. These sessions are about that. They’re about capturing your family, AS YOU ARE, in your favorite ways of being together, because these moments are fleeting, and today is the smallest our children will ever be again. Legacy sessions are an invitation to courage - to letting yourself be seen in the gloriously beautiful truth of how your family loves each other. Not picture perfect. But perfectly imperfectly together.
